Sub-Committees
There are many ways to get involved

Why Sub-Committees?

We want individuals to be passionate about the SE CAC and by breaking into sub-committees we have created many more focused opportunities for our members and community to get involved. All committees have small and larger roles that require your help. Little or Big... your help and your opinion is needed.

Please review our current committees and contact the committee leader for more detailed information.

Sub-Committees 2007-08
IPSF/Fundraising

The purpose of this committee is to raise funds for the Active Playground Support Program, so that it is a self-sustaining program.  There are currently 2 ongoing fundraising activities: the annual Resource Fair and grant writing.  The committee is seeking members who have expertise in applying for grants and/or members who will seek out corporate sponsors for the annual Resource Fair.

Active Playground Support

This committee has been instrumental in the formation of the Active Playground Support program, a pilot project designed to support kids who are struggling in the unstructured playground environment.  The Special Education Community Advisory Committee (SE CAC) has partnered with the Irvine Public Schools Foundation (IPSF) and the Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) to develop and raise funds for this program that supports social skills development, physical activity and cooperative play during recess.  The committee is looking for members who can be available during recess time to collect data on a regular basis (approximately 2 hr/week for 13+ weeks) and someone with a statistical background who can analyze the data collected.

Parent Support Program

The Parent Support Program is designed to aide parents who are new to their school/district or to Special Education in navigating the often confusing waters of the education system, as well as any parents who would simply like more support. The Parent Support Program is still in the developing stages, and has the following goals this school year:

  • To bring together a group of parents from schools all over Irvine who are interested in sharing their experiences with children with special needs (IEP's, 504's, and just plain day-to-day coping) and in participating in a program that will offer support to other parents
  • To develop an action plan for the Parent Support Program

Programming

The Programming sub-committee is respoonsbile for selecting speakers, advertising and implementing meeting for our yearly speaker series and any other educational events the committee feels would benefit our families and community.

Members are urgently needed to assist with our first speaker on October 24, 2007. Please contact Tiffany Jameson at tiffany@empoweringirvine.org for information and to join the programming sub-committee.

We currently have not scheduled our next meeting. Volunteers always needed!

Resource Fair

Each year we produce an exciting resource fair for all our families. This event is a great resource to all our families and also serves as a fundraiser for our programs. The fair requires many volunteers to assit with it's success. There are many different roles to be filled, many of them can be done at home when time permits.

The fair is scheduled for March 12, 2008. The first meeting of the sub-committee will be on November 5 at 7pm. Location to be announced.

We will be working remotely. Volunteers needed to help with publicity. Please contact Tiffany Jameson at tiffany@empoweringirvine.org to find out more information about getting involved with the resource fair.

Membership

Through the special education teams in the Irvine district, identify the parents who would benefit from the CAC. Once those parents are identified the committee would make sure they receive information and are educated regarding CAC.
