IEPs are a fact of life for families with children in special education.  Navigating the process, interpreting evaluation results and effectively communicating with your team members require essential skills.  This IEP workshop will provide families with information, tools and guidelines to assist in making the process more comprehensible, successful and gratifying.

Speaker: Dennis Herzog, Lead School Psychologist, Irvine Unified

This is Dennis' twenty-third year as a psychologist in the Irvine School District. He has worked at Vista Verde K-8 school(16 years), Woodbridge High School (13 years), Bonita Canyon Elementary (8 years) and Culverdale  Elementary School(1 year). Currently, Dennis works full-time at the district office as the psychologist supervisor and transition program administrator. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, a Masters of Science Degree in Counseling, a Pupil Personnel Services Credential, a School Psychologist Credential and is a Licensed Educational Psychologist. Dennis' passion has always been working with children and providing them the skills and tools to be happy and successful in life.    


Pharmaceutical and Nutritional Approaches to Treating Children & Young Adults

The number of medications available today is overwhelming and many parents are unsure of how to interpret the benefits and side effects of all medications.  Additionally, when making a decision about treatment, it is helpful to know all options available, including holistic options.  This seminar will provide views on both medical and holistic options available to treat commonly medicated behaviors and diagnoses.

Speaker:  Andrew Schneider, MS, DO

Born and raised in a small town outside of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Andrew Schneider received a B.S. in Psychology and M.S. in Sports Psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.  He received his medical training at the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in Glendale, Arizona.  During medical school he also attended the Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture part-time where he studied Traditional Chinese Medicine with an emphasis in Chinese herbal medicine.  Dr. Schneider completed his adult psychiatry residency training at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.  He completed an additional 2-year fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of California, Irvine’s Neuropsychiatric Medical Center. 

Dr. Schneider is currently in private practice in Aliso Viejo, California, where he offers individual psychotherapy and medication management and has patients ranging in age from 5 to 75 years.  Adding to his treatment modalities are his strong interests and background in Chinese herbal medicine and sports psychology.  Dr. Schneider treats adults of all ages, yet specializes in child and adolescent psychiatry.  Athletes of all ages and competitive levels may also benefit from his background in sports psychology.

Dr. Schneider currently resides in Irvine, California and enjoys many outdoor activities in his free time such as basketball, running, and hiking.  His interests include health, fitness, nature, and reading.


Transition Seminars

There are many types of transitions that take place during a child's education.  For many children in special education and their families, these transitions present unique challenges.  To assist in preparing for upcoming transitions the following presentations will be available: Transitioning to a New Campus, Transitioning to a New Grade/Classroom, and Transitioning to Adulthood.  Each presentation will provide strategies parents can implement to ensure that their student is comfortable and ready to transition smoothly to his or her new environment.
Regional Center of Orange County will be joining us this evening to discuss their range of services for children, young adults and their families.
